    Stony Mountain Concert

Our first concert of the year is at Stony Mountain United Church. It is a joint concert with the Stonewall Collegiate Jazz Band and we will be on first at 7:30PM, so please arrive at 7:00PM. The church is on Main Street in Stony Mountain, for a quick map go here (Google Map). If you prefer Doug's entertaining commentary, here is an excerpt from the newsletter directions:

O.K., O.K. so some of you have a well-trodden, albeit chauffered, path to Stony Mountain. For the rest... take Highway 7 north from the perimeter. When you are level with the pen, turn right for 'Stony Mountain'. Cross the railway track and take the first left, Old #7. At 500m, turn right down the side of the pen property. This will be School Road. At 500m, turn left on Main Street (not sign-posted). This is a test of initiative. It's when you have the Anglican Church on your right, turn left. That church looks right down Main Street. The United is just along a bit on your right. Can't miss it. Stony Mountain is well churched. The good folks there have a choice of United, Anglican or Catholic. Wot, no mosque? Myrna?

Other important details, bring your music, stands, black & reds, and a stand light if you have it. After the concert we are invited downstairs for refreshments and a meet & greet, so please come and get to know your band mates. Lastly, if you are bringing friends and family the gate is $10 (band members excluded).

To all participating in the bus trip,
At rehearsal this week (Dec 10th) we will be collecting the $35 fee associated with the bus trip. If you can't be there, there is another opportunity to pay as you board the bus!!

Other than lunch (everyone brings a bagged lunch) and "refreshments" at the Legion, the $35 fee pretty much covers everything else; the "luxury" coach bus, a "fine" chicken supper, and the entry fee to an "exciting" museum!!

Either $35 cash or a cheque will do the trick (though the more people who have exact change the better!!).

The highlights of the schedule are:

John Martens is the director for the day.
Dress for the gigs is Westwood Community Band red t-shirts and black pants. Christmas hats and accoutrements welcome.

11:00 amBus leaves the Canadian Tire parking lot at Unicity (please be there by 10:45 in time to get everything loaded and settled in)
Please let us know if you are meeting the bus at the alternate location: Oak Bluff Rec Centre parking lot.

3:00pm Visit to the Fossil Discovery Centre (~1 1/2 hours)
5:30pm Supper - Chicken Chef at the Carman Legion
6:35pm Arrive at Carman Active Living Centre
7:00pm Downbeat for the Active Living Centre concert (1hour)
    8:00pm Return to Carman Legion
10:00pm Depart Carman Legion to return to Winnipeg
11:00pm "ish" Arrive back at the Unicity Centre Canadian Tire.

Stonewall is a 30 minute drive from Westwood, at the most. Doug has kindly provided us detailed directions which have been posted below, and here is a Google Map link, although Stonewall doesn't have any street names.

There are two ways to Stonewall. From the west edge of the city take the perimeter north, turn left at the light on to Hwy #6, then go about mile and take the first on the right which is #236. Go straight north for sixteen clicks and as you are approaching Stonewall, turn left at the first intersection with street lights on to #67 (green signpost 'Warren") then take the first on the right (signposted 'Stonewall') which is Fifth St. W. At the stop sign go straight, then take the first left on to Keith Cosens Drive and you're there. If you cross the railway track you have gone too far.

The alternative is to go north on Hwy 90 which turns into Hwy #7. Go past the Stony Mountain pen then turn left at the traffic lights on to #67. As you enter Stonewall go straight, don't follow #67. Turn left at the third stop sign. At the next stop sign go straight, cross the railway track and make an immediate right which is Keith Cosens Drive and you're there.
